The Department of Indigenous Studies continues UB's tradition as a premier center for Haudenosaunee and Indigenous scholarship. UB's program stands out for its focus on community-driven, activist-oriented research that creates meaningful change. As an Indigenous Studies student, you'll first take core classes covering Indigenous languages, arts, literature, history, and modern concerns. After this base, you can select from various specialized courses examining topics like worldwide Indigenous challenges, environmental land issues (particularly important for climate change studies), and Haudenosaunee languages, arts, cultures, and political systems. Beyond developing expertise in public health, politics, and current global Indigenous matters, you'll also immerse yourself in the vibrant history, creative expressions, written works, and traditions of Indigenous populations.
