The Master of Science in MAS is an application-focused degree program. The Latino Health and Wellness specialization equips students to perform culturally sensitive health research and create health initiatives for Latino populations. The Historical and Cultural Studies track focuses on modern academic approaches, theories, and research methods in anthropology and history. The Critical Education and Migration Studies concentration gives students both qualitative and quantitative skills to analyze and influence policies affecting Mexican Americans and their communities.
The MAS Master's program requires 33 credit units to complete. This innovative curriculum enhances knowledge about the significant Mexican American and Latino communities in the U.S. Students can choose from three academic tracks: Latina/o Health and Wellness, Historical and Cultural Studies, or Critical Education & Migration Studies.

Admissions Requirements
Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 in the last two years of undergraduate work (last 60 units) is the minimum requirement for admission the our program.
Statement of Intent: (Single-spaced, two-to-three pages) This statement should include professional plans, statement of interest in the M.S. program, and background in Mexican American Studies.
Writing Sample: A 10 - 20 page scholarly paper that demonstrates your mastery of the subject and a clear, cogent writing style.
Three Letters of Recommendation: preferably from former professors or professionals directly acquainted with your work and scholarship. Letters of recommendation form outside the academy may be given less weight in the final analysis). These letters should be current (no more than six months old). They must be on official letterhead. Please have your recommenders send their letters to the Department of Mexican American Studies.

One Official Transcript: from each college-level schools you have attended.

GRE Scores: Optional. As of Fall 2021, we as a department have decided to waive the GRE scores as a requirement.
