The East Asian Studies BA program offers two specialization paths: language studies or cultural studies. The Japanese Language Intensive track develops linguistic abilities across three progressive levels, from introductory to advanced, including focused training in complex reading, composition, and dialogue. Applicants may need to complete a placement assessment to establish their starting level. Graduates emerge capable of engaging in meaningful verbal and written exchanges with native Japanese speakers while demonstrating strong reading comprehension of Japanese texts.
