For those passionate about creating innovative disease treatments, we require you to first master the molecular mechanisms of disease. Our goal is to equip you with essential skills for careers in medical research, academia, industry, and education.

This program holds immense significance at UAB. Over one-third of our graduate biomedical sciences faculty are directly involved, representing diverse schools, departments, and research centers across the university. Their expertise spans molecular studies, whole organism research, disease mechanisms, and beyond. Initially, your core curriculum will explore interdisciplinary subjects focused on the molecular foundations and pathobiology of human diseases. Courses will include pharmacology, biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology. Lab rotations will provide practical experience to help you discover your research focus.
