Physiologists lead the way in biomedical research and translational science, employing evidence-based studies to drive clinical innovations that enhance patient outcomes. Our Physiology Ph.D. program equips students for professional paths in applied and integrative physiology, neuroscience, and biomedical fields.
Howard University's Graduate School offers a Physiology Ph.D. that readies students for impactful careers in applied physiology, neuroscience, and biomedical sciences. Alumni influence scientific research and education across academia, government agencies, and private sectors. Graduates frequently secure postdoctoral positions at prestigious institutions including Children's National Medical Center, D.C. Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Gladstone Institute of Virology and Immunology. As a Physiology doctoral candidate, you'll engage in hands-on research exploring physiological system regulation, functionality, and interactions, translating findings into innovative treatments. The program provides training in molecular, cellular, and systems-level physiological techniques across six specialization areas: neurophysiology, cardiovascular physiology, renal physiology, respiratory physiology, endocrine physiology, and gastrointestinal physiology. You'll become part of Howard's collaborative Physiology Department community while accessing research opportunities through the School of Medicine and Cancer Center's funded laboratories.
