The Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology provides graduate training through the Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS) program. BBS students choose from 7 specialized tracks aligned with their research focus. They can conduct dissertation research with any of over 200 BBS faculty members, including those in Cellular and Molecular Physiology. Department faculty primarily engage with the Molecular Medicine, Pharmacology, and Physiology (MMPP) track while also contributing to other BBS pathways. Students formally join the Cellular and Molecular Physiology program after their first BBS year, once they've selected a dissertation advisor. Our doctoral program aims to equip students for careers investigating biological systems. Learners craft personalized coursework to gain comprehensive biomedical knowledge while specializing in chosen areas. The curriculum emphasizes understanding interconnected biophysical-physiological phenomena across multiple scales: from organ systems to cellular processes and molecular mechanisms.
