Design and Technical Production
The Design and Technical Production Concentration covers Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Sound Design, Technical Direction, and related fields. Throughout the program, students explore all these disciplines in their coursework. They can focus their production work on one specific area or gain experience across multiple specialties.
Typically spanning three years, the MFA program may offer a reduced duration for students entering with an MA in theatre, subject to faculty assessment of prior work. Those seeking accelerated completion must request an evaluation of their previous studies. A minimum two-year residency is generally required for students in shortened programs. With approval from both the specialization Area Head and relevant Department, courses from other Departments may count toward the 45 required credit hours.
