The Master of Arts in Art History is a collaborative program with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). This graduate program equips students for advanced doctoral studies or professional opportunities in museums, galleries, and related fields. The University of Alabama's MA in Art History provides two distinct completion tracks: thesis research and museum studies. Track 1 concludes with a written thesis and oral defense, while Track 2 requires a substantial research paper and final presentation drawing from coursework and a museum internship experience.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants to the graduate MA program in art history must satisfy admission policies established by the Graduate School of The University of Alabama, including a minimum score of 300 on the revised GRE graduate record exam. Applicants should have completed 24 undergraduate hours in art history or related courses with an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better and a grade point average of 3.5 in all art history coursework. A BA degree in art history is not a requirement for admission. Students with fewer than the minimum required number of hours in art history are eligible for admission on the condition that they make up any deficiency in the first semester of their graduate career.

TOEFL : The minimum score for admission to a degree program or for non-degree admission is 79 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT).
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): The minimum score for admission to a degree program or for non-degree admission is 6.5.
TOEFL paper-based score of 550 and above
