The Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction centers on curriculum studies as an academic discipline, cultivating expertise in examining and tackling the intricate, multifaceted questions shaping curriculum theory, design, implementation, assessment, and appraisal. This program aims to equip future curriculum specialists, scholars, and educators with the essential competencies to critically analyze, develop, and assess educational programs that foster ideal learning environments for diverse student populations. Through rigorous training, graduates will learn to scrutinize implicit biases and recognize sophisticated issues related to educational practice within schools and other organizations in pluralistic societies. Special emphasis is placed on exploring the foundational philosophical, theoretical, historical, sociocultural, ethical, and political frameworks influencing curricular decisions at all levels. The Language, Diversity & Literacy Studies concentration prepares researchers dedicated to championing and supporting multilingual and multicultural populations. Program participants will engage in cooperative, dynamic research methodologies that yield insights into language and literacy education through various lenses (cultural, historical, linguistic, and literary frameworks).
