The animal science Ph.D. program mandates completing a dissertation along with at least 60 graduate credit hours plus 12 dissertation credits, summing to 72 total hours. Up to 30 credit hours from a Master's program (excluding thesis and seminar credits) can be transferred, subject to approval by the student's advisory committee. Those pursuing a Ph.D. in Animal Science can focus their studies on various specialization areas including breeding and genetics, livestock or pet nutrition, reproductive or environmental physiology, animal health epidemiology, behavior and welfare studies, growth biology, companion animal research, equine studies, meat science, or food science disciplines.

Qualification Requirements
International applicants must provide original language documents and English translations. If the documents are not provided in English, an official English translation of all transcripts/ individual semester mark sheets is required.
If admitted, the applicant will be required to submit official transcripts, diplomas/degree certificates, and test scores by the twelfth class day of the term to which the applicant is admitted.
Original or Certified Copies of All College and University Transcripts - Include mark sheets, examination results, etc. An official English translation is required. If the degree is not complete when the application is made, six semesters or three years of course work are required.
GRE Test. The department expects applicants to have a combined verbal and quantitative score of 297 (new testing method) or 1000 (old testing method) and a writing score of 3.5 or higher although TTU has a holistic admissions policy that evaluates candidates on many factors and not just GRE scores, GPA, or any other factor. Currently, due to COVID-19, GRE scores are temporarily waived.
