The Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences provides one of the nation's most extensive graduate programs in this field. Faculty research spans a wide spectrum, from fundamental biological investigations using both in vivo and in vitro approaches to applying bioinformatics and data analysis for biological research and creating dairy farm management tools. These diverse research areas share a common goal: solving real-world challenges in animal agriculture.
Our graduate student body includes both Wisconsin residents, out-of-state students, and international scholars from various nations. This blend of backgrounds enriches our research, teaching, outreach, and cultural exchange. Alumni pursue careers in academia, veterinary/medical schools, food industry research, government and corporate laboratories, as well as scientific leadership roles across multiple sectors.

Qualification Requirements
Students with satisfactory undergraduate or graduate training in any biological science including emphasis on basic science courses will have suitable backgrounds for graduate studies in Animal Sciences. Typically, students admitted to the program have GPAs of 3.2 or higher, candidates with a lower GPA may be considered for admission under special circumstances.
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution is required.
A minimum undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 on the equivalent of the last 60 semester hours (approximately two years of work) or a master's degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 is required. Applicants from an international institution must demonstrate strong academic achievement comparable to a 3.00 for an undergraduate or master's degree.
Minimum TOEFL requirement- 92 internet (iBT), 580 paper-based test (PBT)
