The Department of Animal Science provides advanced degree programs focused on areas including animal genetics and breeding, nutrition for both ruminant and non-ruminant species, physiology, and meat/poultry product research. Students have access to modern analytical labs and specialized animal research facilities. These state-of-the-art resources support fundamental and practical investigations involving large animals, poultry, and laboratory species. The department operates a comprehensive, federally approved meat processing facility dedicated to poultry and meat science studies. Additionally, research facilities located 40 minutes from Lincoln support beef and dairy cattle, sheep, and swine studies across all research areas. Graduate students participate in joint research initiatives at four university-affiliated research centers and the USDA Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska.
