The Department of Language and Literature provides a collaborative Ph.D. program in Hispanic Studies, offered jointly with Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and Texas A&M International University. Students who complete the Hispanic Studies Ph.D. will gain specialized knowledge qualifying them for academic roles in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or similar fields, along with comprehensive expertise in Hispanic Studies necessary for leadership roles in government, public service, education, and foundations. While Texas A&M University grants the degree, a significant portion of coursework, research, and advising can be conducted at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Distance learning delivers all off-campus courses. Doctoral residency requirements can be fulfilled by completing two consecutive semesters (with at least nine credit hours each) either at the College Station campus or via distance education courses from College Station available across all System campuses. Program participants will be guided by a Ph.D. committee consisting of a chair (from College Station), a dissertation adviser (potentially from Kingsville), and three additional members.
