The Global and International Studies Department features a doctoral program in Global Studies. This distinctive transdisciplinary program sets itself apart through its innovative coursework, faculty expertise, and integration of diverse scholarly approaches spanning the social sciences and humanities. Professors examine worldwide challenges including warfare, social disparities, population movements, civil liberties, environmental shifts, public health, indigenous rights, racial dynamics, cultural globalization, transnational communities, and socioeconomic progress through an interdisciplinary lens.

What makes this program exceptional is its emphasis on incorporating scholarship from the global south and alternative knowledge systems, expanding the foundations of academic inquiry while offering fresh viewpoints on contemporary global concerns. The curriculum critically examines conventional assumptions and power structures while highlighting the enduring impacts of colonial and imperial histories.
