The English Program for undergraduates at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offers students the opportunity to interact with diverse texts and hone language skills that foster connections both near and far. Our program promotes the examination and synthesis of three key areas within English Studies: literature, applied linguistics, and composition. Students are encouraged to examine, critically evaluate, and create texts spanning multiple genres, linguistic styles, and cultural traditions for audiences worldwide. Through coursework and campus activities, learners cultivate sophisticated analytical and creative competencies along with language proficiency, equipping them to become engaged, principled participants in multicultural societies. English majors can specialize in either Literary Studies or Writing Studies. The Literary Studies concentration equips students to analyze and critique various texts—including literature and film—within diverse historical and cultural frameworks. Meanwhile, the Writing Studies focus helps students refine their writing capabilities for multiple situations and objectives while gaining insight into writing's societal role through rhetoric, literacy, and composition studies. Both specializations develop students' critical thinking and communication abilities, preparing them for professional fields such as law, education, business, and science, as well as for advanced academic pursuits.
