The Master of Science (MS) in Food Science and Technology equips students with sophisticated scientific and analytical capabilities across key food science disciplines, fostering professional success in the field. This program readies graduates for high-level positions in industry (such as innovative food product creation), government policy and regulation, NGOs, while also laying the foundation for doctoral studies and independent research.
The Food Science and Technology MS curriculum builds a robust foundation in both theoretical and practical food science through tailored coursework and pioneering research addressing contemporary societal challenges. Students can engage in fundamental or applied investigations spanning food chemistry, processing techniques, microbial safety (including probiotics), engineering principles, packaging solutions, ingredient technologies, meat/poultry studies, grain science, plant bioactive compounds, sensory evaluation, and more. Each scholar develops a customized research plan with mentorship from their graduate advisory committee.
The basic requirement for admission to graduate studies in Food Science & Technology at Texas A&M University is a scholastic record which, over at least the last two years of full-time academic study in a degree program, gives evidence of the applicant’s ability to do successful graduate-level work. Specific requirements for admission into the graduate program include a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) on an undergraduate degree in food science or a related field.
English proficiency can also be demonstrated by:
Minimum TOEFL i-BT score of 80 (in person or Home Edition) from a test date within two years (Texas A&M University does not accept the MyBest TOEFL score), or
Minimum TOEFL Essentials score of 8.5, or
Minimum IELTS Academic test score of 6.0 overall band (Texas A&M University does not accept the IELTS General test), or
GRE Verbal Reasoning score of at least 146 (subject to departmental approval), or
GMAT Verbal Score of at least 22 (subject to departmental approval), or
Acquiring alternative verification during the admission process from the Graduate and Professional School via a departmental request.
