The Bachelor of Science in Education for Middle Grades Education equips undergraduate students to teach students from fourth through eighth grade. There's growing demand for middle school educators, especially in mathematics and science, both in Pennsylvania and nationwide. The College of Education and Human Development's Middle Grades Education program not only addresses the need for qualified teachers to fill these positions but also ensures graduates possess extensive knowledge about teaching methods while being dedicated to serving diverse pre-adolescent learners across cultural, socioeconomic, and regional contexts. Our curriculum emphasizes developing specialized teaching expertise that aligns with academic standards and meets the varied developmental requirements of middle school students. To bridge theory with practice, we incorporate frequent, strategically planned field experiences in middle school environments throughout the program. What makes our program distinctive is its innovative approach in training undergraduates to effectively teach in both upper elementary and middle school classrooms.
