The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures strives to develop globally aware, well-rounded individuals. By mastering languages and understanding diverse cultures, our students gain the tools for internationally focused careers. We highly recommend spending junior year overseas to fully engage with another culture and refine language abilities. Our department offers specialized study abroad opportunities: two French options (The Paris Program and The Montreal Program), a Spanish offering (The Cuba Program), and an Italian immersion (The Italy Program). Beginners in Italian can start with ITALIAN 101, progressing to ITALIAN 102 for foundational skills. Intermediate studies continue with ITALIAN 201 and 202. Advanced 300-level courses enable deeper exploration of language proficiency along with Italian culture, history, and global influence.
