The Master of Arts in art history program mandates completion of 30 graduate-level credits (500 or above) across four semesters, allowing students to design personalized study plans with faculty mentorship. The art history curriculum spans diverse subject areas, enabling both comprehensive learning and focused specialization. Financial support options comprise Teaching Assistantships (covering full tuition plus a stipend) along with complete and partial tuition scholarships.
The program enforces a chronological distribution mandate, requiring one course from each historical period: Ancient/Medieval (pre-1300), Early Modern (1300-1750), and Modern/Contemporary (post-1750). Each course may fulfill only one chronological category. Additionally, students must complete a cultural distribution requirement through either Global Perspectives or Intercultural Perspectives coursework (examining cross-cultural or intercultural topics). These cultural courses may simultaneously satisfy chronological requirements. No single course can apply to more than two distinct requirements.
