Stony Brook University's innovative Biomedical Informatics Program is a joint initiative between the School of Medicine and the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. This multidisciplinary domain focuses on harnessing biomedical data, information, and knowledge for scientific research, problem-solving, and decision-making, all aimed at enhancing human health. Our program integrates BMI education with research activities at the Stony Brook University Health Sciences Center, where quantitative sciences have become fundamental to disease understanding, prevention, and treatment. Additionally, we prioritize developing students' skills in creating software solutions and performing computational experiments, mirroring the approach of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. This redesigned Informatics framework prepares BMI students to contribute significantly to Systems Biomedicine, encompassing everything from patient-focused information systems to advanced analytics for interpreting large-scale biomolecular data. The curriculum blends classroom instruction, seminars, and structured project work. Program graduates will find opportunities in academic institutions, research facilities, healthcare organizations, private industry, and government agencies.
