Bioengineering utilizes engineering fundamentals to analyze, modify, and regulate biological mechanisms. This field employs mathematical, physical, and technical principles to address challenges in healthcare and life sciences using electronic components, detection devices, engineered solutions, information analysis, computational visualization, pattern recognition algorithms, and cognitive computing systems.

The bioengineering team in ECE pioneers innovative physical and mathematical approaches for medical and biological applications. Key focus areas involve identifying characteristics in heart imaging, microelectromechanical systems for biological integration, simulating sensory and movement functions in organisms, and creating detectors for cancerous cell identification.

With ongoing progress in medical innovations and persistent challenges in disease comprehension and therapy, bioengineering professionals are crucial for enhancing our knowledge of living systems and for designing and assessing medical technologies.
