The Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences equips graduates for leadership positions addressing the dynamic requirements of pharmaceutical and biomedical education, research, and industry. Program alumni develop expertise to meet emerging challenges across diverse sectors including biotech firms, academic institutions, and government agencies. The curriculum emphasizes foundational training in toxicology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and industrial pharmacy through hands-on research experiences within an inclusive, collaborative academic setting.
All candidates follow a shared core program while pursuing specialized coursework in their chosen concentration. Doctoral candidates conduct original laboratory investigations culminating in a dissertation.

The Department hosts over 30 faculty-led research teams exploring varied specialties such as drug formulation, discovery, and development; preclinical evaluation; environmental toxicity studies; nanomedicine; pharmacogenetics; gene-based therapies; computational modeling; and drug metabolism analysis. Research focuses span therapeutic areas including oncology, metabolic disorders, infectious diseases, and respiratory conditions. This interdisciplinary approach fosters comprehensive training with opportunities for cross-specialization collaboration among researchers from complementary fields.

Qualification Requirements

An applicant seeking acceptance in the Doctor of Philosophy program, Pharmaceutical Sciences must have completed an appropriate Baccalaureate or Master's degree. This degree must be in the natural or physical sciences and may include degrees in the pharmaceutical sciences, toxicology, biology or chemistry. Other degree areas are considered on a case-by-case basis by the Admissions Committee.
