Pharmacology explores the study of medications, where receptors serve as the key macromolecules (typically proteins) that interact with drugs and natural signaling compounds such as hormones, neurotransmitters, and inflammatory mediators. As the most extensive family of drug targets, comprehending receptors and their functions is a central priority in pharmacology and toxicology. At MSU, we pinpoint particular receptors and signaling pathways linked to conditions like hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, inflammation, fibrosis, cancer, epilepsy, stroke, and neurodegenerative illnesses including Parkinson's. Leveraging this insight alongside our innovative Assay Development/Drug Repurposing Core, we strive to uncover groundbreaking treatments for critical unmet medical challenges by focusing on receptors and intracellular signaling pathways.
