The Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics equips students to sit for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification exam and enter professional practice. This accelerated combined bachelor's/master's program follows a competency-based approach, blending academic instruction with 1,000 hours of supervised practical training. Successful completion of SDSU's ACEND-accredited MSND program qualifies graduates for the Commission on Dietetic Registration's credentialing examination to earn RDN status.
Prospective students submit applications in their sophomore year's second semester, with admission to the accelerated track through the School of Health and Consumer Sciences occurring at junior year commencement. The curriculum fosters research proficiency, critical thinking, and current nutritional science expertise. RDNs pursue careers across diverse environments such as healthcare facilities, consulting practices, educational food services, wellness initiatives, agricultural extension programs, and global food industry enterprises.
