Our program focused on social justice equips students to become engaged participants in their communities and the world. Our faculty integrates diverse social viewpoints into teaching and research, critically examining societal structures with special attention to race, class, gender, and sexuality. The curriculum addresses pressing issues including wealth disparity, prison systems, violence against women, identity formation, urban displacement, male gender studies, transgender experiences, and visions of liberation. Using an intersectional approach, we create an inclusive learning environment that amplifies marginalized voices. Through collaborative efforts, we empower you to critically assess systems of power while fostering personal and collective awareness aimed at driving social change. Sociology examines human societies and their challenges. This discipline offers a framework for interpreting social dynamics within families, organizations, and public policies. You'll develop analytical skills to evaluate and reshape social systems, institutions, relationships, and personal perspectives. We nurture the 'sociological imagination' - the capacity to connect personal experiences with larger societal patterns.
