Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (MLML) offers a Master of Science program in marine science, operated in partnership with SJSU. This graduate program welcomes students from all seven CSU consortium member institutions, maintaining a strong commitment to outstanding education and scientific investigation. With a fully equipped marine operations team, an engaged scientific diving program, and modern facilities featuring advanced technology, MLML facilitates pioneering research across diverse fields such as: marine ecosystems, the study of aquatic flora, invertebrates, fish species, sea turtles, seabirds and marine mammals, along with oceanographic and geological processes, chemical analyses and biogeochemical cycles. Recognized globally for its practical, field-based methodology, MLML positions its students, faculty, research teams and personnel at the vanguard of marine science, contributing to groundbreaking findings across the globe.

All prospective students must apply to both MLML and an affiliated California State University (CSU) campus to serve as his or her administrative home campus. Degree requirements and the academic program are the same for all MLML students regardless of CSU home campus, administrative deadlines and processes (related to enrollment, payment, financial aid, graduation and thesis submission, etc.) do vary slightly by CSU campus, however, as do tuition and fees. All MLML students register for classes, pay tuition/fees, and receive financial aid through their home CSU campus, which also awards the official diploma and transcripts. All MLML classes and academic programs are held at MLML's main facility in Moss Landing.
MLML has no GPA or GRE minimums, but admitted students generally have a GPA of 3.2 or greater and GRE scores in the upper 30th percentile. CSU campuses generally set a minimum GPA for admission, and all MLML applicants must meet CSU minimums for admission.
To meet the minimum eligibility standards for graduate study at San Francisco State, an applicant must: hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, or shall have completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by the appropriate campus authority, have a 3.0 GPA or better in their earned undergraduate degree or the last 60-semester (90-quarter) units completed, or have earned a post-baccalaureate degree, IELTS - 6.5, TOEFL IBT-80, PBT-550, PTE- 59
