The Master of Social Work degree holds full accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the exclusive accrediting body for social work programs nationwide. Completing a CSWE-accredited program is mandatory for obtaining social work licensure in Michigan.
Aligning with SVSU's mission and CSWE's EPAS standards (2022), the Social Work department aims to enhance social welfare across the Great Lakes Bay Region, Michigan, and broader communities by delivering generalist education on evidence-based practices and researching social issues. Our program cultivates ethical, skilled, and culturally competent social workers capable of delivering interprofessional services that uphold human rights and advocate for social, economic, and environmental justice for marginalized populations in diverse settings. Our graduates emerge ready to lead in both direct service and systemic interventions that strengthen individuals, families, groups, and communities.
