The Bible and Beyond A key focus in Rice University's Ph.D. program is Biblical Studies. This program emphasizes rigorous examination of both the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, situating them within the historical frameworks of Ancient Judaism and Early Christianity. Additionally, it explores the extensive non-canonical texts surrounding these traditions, such as the Old and New Testament Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha writings, Dead Sea Scrolls, Nag Hammadi manuscripts, Gnostic texts, and early Christian patristic works from the pre-Nicene era.
