The program aims to educate scholars and instructors specializing in Asian religions, developing their expertise in one primary tradition and region while building substantial knowledge of another Asian religion and geographical area. Participants will focus their thesis research on their primary specialization while completing coursework in their secondary area. For instance, those studying Chinese or Japanese Buddhism for their thesis would enroll in classes covering Indian and/or Tibetan religions, while students concentrating on India would pursue advanced coursework in East Asian Buddhism. This approach ensures students gain both comprehensive understanding of broader trends in Asian religious studies and the specialized skills needed for academic research.
