Stanford's Religion, Ethics, and Philosophy subfield focuses on the analytical examination of Judeo-Christian intellectual traditions, religious philosophy, moral theology, and associated secular writings. The program welcomes applicants holding master's degrees who wish to explore medieval and contemporary Jewish theology - particularly its intersections with ecological ethics and technological morality - post-Reformation and Enlightenment Christian theology (with emphasis on the 19th century), along with comparative religious ethics, philosophical theology, and poetic traditions. While students typically concentrate on one or two specialized areas, they develop comprehensive knowledge of the entire subfield through interdisciplinary engagement. Proficiency in relevant research languages is mandatory.
