The world urgently requires solutions for environmental, energy, health, food, and sustainability challenges, all of which are deeply connected to biological systems. Biological engineers are trained to design and analyze these systems to create practical and innovative answers. Graduates with a B.S. in Biological Engineering are equipped for roles in the food, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and bioprocessing sectors, as well as for advanced studies in graduate or medical school. Students can customize their major and study plan to align with their career objectives, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering (BSBE). Key focus areas include:

BioEnvironmental Engineering: Manufacturers in bioprocessing, such as the food and pharmaceutical industries, seek advanced environmental controls, waste management, and water treatment solutions to achieve sustainability targets and adhere to stricter government rules. Traditional engineering approaches used in municipal wastewater treatment are often inadequate for the diverse waste streams of specialized sectors. Moreover, there is significant potential to recover valuable products from these water sources.

Cellular and Biomolecular Engineering: This rapidly evolving discipline is poised to create opportunities in biomanufacturing, drug development, human therapeutics, tissue and organ regeneration, bioenergy and biofuel production, bioremediation, and biodefense.

Food & Biological Process Engineering: As an interdisciplinary field, it uses basic sciences, mathematics, and engineering to transform agricultural products into edible foods and biological materials via various processing techniques. Progress in genetic engineering is driving the development of novel crops and processing methods to produce value-added goods.

Pharmaceutical Process Engineering: This curriculum prepares graduates with specialized skills for diverse roles in the pharmaceutical industry, encompassing research, product and process development, processing engineering, manufacturing, and marketing.
