The Master of Arts in American Studies offers an interdisciplinary exploration of U.S. culture, encompassing political science, history, literature, ethical traditions, and optional courses. The program is designed with working professionals in mind, allowing students to balance full-time jobs while earning their degree. This 36-credit program includes seven required core classes plus two electives.
Before graduation, students must successfully complete a comprehensive exam assessing their knowledge across all program subjects. A culminating reading course helps students synthesize their learning and prepare for this final examination. Those who adhere to the recommended schedule can finish the degree in 30 months.
Applicants for the American studies program will have usually completed an undergraduate major in one of the basic disciplines of our American studies program: English, history, religion, or political science.
All students whose native language is not English must submit scores on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). A minimum total score of 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based), or 100 (iBT version) is required.
