The Theatre Program at Seaver College offers intensive performing arts training within a liberal arts framework. Students gain professional-level experience through high-quality stage productions and regular master classes led by visiting artists, immersing them in the vibrant world of theatre.
Theatre arts majors develop both creative and analytical skills for careers in performance, direction, film, musical theatre, and design, while learning practical industry knowledge. They contribute to Seaver College's cultural life by performing in cutting-edge campus venues.
Our foundational curriculum operates on the principle that all theatre students - whether aspiring performers, designers, or directors - first need comprehensive artistic training. Required courses in technical theatre, dramatic theory, production, historical context, and arts activism provide essential knowledge that serves graduates whether they pursue theatre careers or transition to related entertainment fields. Pepperdine's robust theatre foundation cultivates perseverance and versatility, shaping graduates into adaptable theatre professionals.
Directing students complete specialized coursework across acting, vocal training, technical production, stage coordination, and art studies. Their training focuses on an intensive year-long directing class where they helm monologues, scenes, and one-act plays. Each directing major assists a faculty director on a mainstage show at least once before undertaking their capstone project: staging a complete full-length production in our studio theatre.
