The department provides Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy programs in Agricultural and Biological Engineering. Students can choose research topics and complementary courses from diverse areas aligned with faculty expertise. Despite Penn State's size, our department maintains a close-knit, small-college atmosphere. We actively involve graduate students in all departmental academic, professional, and social events alongside faculty and staff. Additional professional development opportunities include funding for national conferences and research support through technical and clerical assistance. Our program typically enrolls 40-45 M.S. and Ph.D. students, with about half being international students and nearly 60% pursuing doctoral degrees.
The program requirement for acceptance to graduate study toward a Ph.D. degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering is an M.S. degree with research thesis in an engineering or science discipline with a B.S. degree from an engineering program. Outstanding students interested in direct admission from a B.S. engineering program to the Ph.D.
