The African American and African Studies (AAST) program provides both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree options. This curriculum equips students with fundamental knowledge and analytical abilities while allowing specialization in either African American Studies or African Studies. Students explore the interdisciplinary examination of African diaspora communities, particularly in the United States. This multidisciplinary framework, a cornerstone of the program, addresses the constraints of studying populations through a singular academic lens. The discipline fosters critical thinking and analytical capabilities, shaping versatile graduates ready for employment or advanced studies across diverse fields including law, medicine, and social work. Graduates emerge equipped to navigate contemporary society with specialized understanding of the historical and modern racial dynamics influencing both national and global contexts. Degree recipients gain comprehensive liberal arts training, exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, and analytical competencies that prepare them for postgraduate education and enhance their value across various sectors including public, private, and nonprofit organizations.
