The graduate programs in the Department of Sociology focus on core principles of sociological research (including theory, methodology, and statistics) alongside specialized fields of study. Graduate students have the opportunity to concentrate on multiple disciplines such as Criminal Behavior and Deviance, Environmental Sociology, Social Stratification, Collective Action, and Social Psychology.
Program Requirements
Completion of 91 credit hours post-bachelor's degree or 60 credit hours post-master's degree
Foundational coursework in sociological theory and research methods
Comprehensive examinations covering two of five specialization areas: Criminal Behavior and Deviance, Environmental Sociology, Social Stratification, Collective Action, and Social Psychology
Thesis project
