Feminist Studies is a cross-disciplinary field that generates groundbreaking research and promotes dynamic, imaginative teaching. Our scholars examine how gender dynamics—intersecting with factors like race, class, ethnicity, sexuality, nationality, ability, and other dimensions of difference—shape social, political, and cultural structures. We specialize in three key areas: race and nationalism, gender identities and sexual orientations, and labor related to both production and reproduction. As one of the few institutions providing a Ph.D. in this discipline, our department serves those pursuing academic careers in research and higher education.
Students applying to the graduate program must possess a B.A. or B.S. degree from an accredited institution or equivalent, have a strong background in women's, gender, or feminist studies, and evidence of potential for excellence in research, analysis, and oral and written communication. Candidates should have at least a 3.3 grade point average.
