The Doctor of Philosophy in Biological and Biomedical Sciences enables students to pursue research across diverse biological disciplines. Research fields encompass biochemistry, cellular biology, cancer studies, developmental biology, ecology, evolutionary science, genetics, immunology, microbiology, physiology, and stem cell research. Doctoral candidates will undertake dissertation projects supervised by faculty within or associated with the Department of Biological Sciences. Students admitted with a master's degree from Oakland University or another accredited institution may petition to transfer up to 32 credits toward their PhD requirements.

Qualification Requirements

Official transcripts are required from all post-secondary educational institutions from which the applicant earned a degree (beginning with first baccalaureate) and all enrollment in graduate level course work beyond the bachelor's degree.

International university transcripts (educational credentials) must be evaluated by a professional credential evaluation service. Oakland University will only accept transcript evaluations completed by a NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation service) member organization.

Applicants must have a strong academic background in biology including cellular and molecular biology. Undergraduate academic record should also typically include physics, calculus and statistics.
