Molecular Cell Biology utilizes biochemical, genetic, molecular, and advanced imaging methods to study fundamental cellular mechanisms in both healthy and diseased states. The Cell & Developmental Biology Research Area offers extensive opportunities to explore molecular and cellular biology challenges. This interdisciplinary program brings together distinguished faculty from multiple School of Medicine departments, providing comprehensive expertise across research topics and experimental methodologies in molecular cell biology.
Research focuses span cell signaling, glycobiology, lipid signaling and membrane transport, molecular motors and vesicle movement, chromosome dynamics, gene expression control, RNA modification, cell division regulation, cancer biology, and the interconnected nature of these systems. Studies employ diverse model organisms like yeast, fruit flies, nematodes, mice, and humans, utilizing techniques from advanced microscopy to genome-wide analyses.
Students select specialized coursework with a molecular cell biology emphasis, including involvement in topic-specific seminars and journal discussion groups.
