The Master of Science in mathematics program allows students to concentrate on one of four specialized areas. You'll dedicate your studies to deepening expertise in either applied mathematics, computational mathematics, mathematics education, or pure mathematics. The Department of Mathematical Sciences provides these four specialization options within the M.S. degree. Prospective students should have fulfilled coursework equivalent to the B.S. in mathematical sciences requirements at NIU for their chosen focus area, though exceptions may be made for exceptional candidates. Prior to enrollment, all admitted students must have completed equivalents of CSCI 230 and MATH 444. It's highly recommended that students take MATH 423, MATH 430, and MATH 431 in their initial year if they haven't already completed these or comparable courses.
