The business education program is an interdisciplinary curriculum designed to equip future educators with the qualifications needed for business teaching certification. This comprehensive program integrates classes from education, business, computing, and communications fields. Business education majors explore diverse subjects and pedagogical training to thoroughly grasp (a) business education fundamentals, (b) contemporary adolescent development theories, and (c) modern instructional approaches for middle and high schools. Through hands-on classroom experiences in area schools, aspiring teachers develop and refine their instructional techniques.
Graduates of this major become equipped to creatively and competently teach business subjects to students in grades 5-12. The curriculum covers essential knowledge in business operations, management principles, marketing strategies, financial accounting, computer applications, programming, web development, and database management. Our educator preparation courses train candidates to implement engaging teaching methods, design meaningful assessments, and adapt lessons for varied learning needs.
Prospective teachers can begin 300-level education courses before official acceptance into the School of Education (SOE). However, enrollment in 400-level classes requires formal SOE admission, including submission of an application, maintenance of a minimum 2.75 GPA across all coursework and education classes, and successful completion of either the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test or achieving benchmark ACT scores.
