The BS dual certification program in Adolescent English and Special Education equips future educators to teach English to both general education and special education students in grades 7-12. This AAQEP-accredited degree trains aspiring English teachers to support learners with and without disabilities in developing reading, writing, and computational skills. Graduates who complete this bachelor's program and pass all required New York State certification exams will qualify for two initial teaching credentials upon degree conferral: Adolescence Education English and Special Education (7-12 Generalist). Throughout the program, students explore child development theories, motivation strategies, and learning approaches for middle and high school students. They'll develop expertise in fostering student engagement, promoting self-responsibility, and encouraging peer collaboration. The curriculum deepens students' knowledge of English while teaching assessment methods for tracking intellectual and social growth, along with inclusive classroom management strategies. The program concludes with a full-semester student teaching placement, providing hands-on experience in both general and special education environments.
