The Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on Life Science and Chemistry readies students for teaching certification in these subjects for grades 7 through 12. The curriculum includes diverse science courses covering geology and physics, with specialized studies in biology and chemistry. Most content classes are completed in the initial three years, while teaching methods courses usually start in the third-year spring semester. In their final year, students finish remaining content requirements, take science education methods classes, and undertake a year-long field placement in a nearby school district, culminating in a 13-week student teaching experience during spring. Early academic advising is strongly recommended for Life Science/Chemistry majors, as proper course sequencing is essential for many required classes.
