Social science examines human behavior and relationships, including how individuals engage with social structures, political systems, and their surroundings. The social science education major encompasses a wide variety of disciplines and coursework. Prospective teachers must show comprehensive knowledge across the social science fields while developing specialized expertise.
Students pursuing social science education learn to deliver inclusive instruction to diverse learners. Those in this program should consult regularly with advisors to ensure their foundational courses adequately prepare them for advanced studies in the major.
Education students can take 300-level teaching courses before official acceptance into the School of Education (SOE). However, to enroll in 400-level classes, candidates must submit an SOE application, maintain an overall 2.75 GPA across all coursework and education classes, and either pass the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test or achieve qualifying ACT scores.
