The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) encompasses all academic coursework mandated by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Upon completion, students receive a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics. Applications are due by January 1 of the sophomore year, requiring a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and a 2.75 GPA in science courses. Admitted DPD students should note that becoming a Registered Dietitian necessitates completing a Dietetic Internship (DI) and maintaining at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Falling below this GPA threshold reduces DI acceptance likelihood. Gaining relevant work experience—whether volunteer or paid—in healthcare food service, nutrition programs, or community initiatives improves DI admission prospects. After successfully finishing a DI, graduates qualify to take the registration exam for dietitian certification. These internships, lasting six to twelve months, are offered nationwide. Starting in 2024, aspiring dietitians must obtain a master's degree alongside completing the DPD and DI requirements. ACEND accredits this program as well.
