The field of nutritional sciences equips students with a thorough understanding of biological and social sciences to explore the connections between nutrients, food components, and human wellbeing. The program emphasizes preventing lifestyle-related illnesses, particularly those influenced by dietary habits. Foundational coursework highlights how nutrients function within biochemistry, genetics, physiology, microbiology, and immunology to support health and improve life quality. This major also serves as strong preparation for advanced studies in biological, nutritional, or food sciences, as well as professional programs in medicine (human or veterinary), dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, nursing, public health, and other healthcare fields, or dietetic training programs.
Both the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and the combined Graduate Degree/Dietetic Internship Program hold accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Graduates who complete the DPD and a dietetic internship qualify to sit for the Registration Examination to earn Registered Dietitian (RD) credentials.
