The NDSU Challey School of Music boasts exceptional students, dedicated faculty, skilled staff, and top-tier facilities. Continuously accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music since 1970, the program maintains a rich legacy of outstanding ensembles tracing back to 1904. Our faculty and staff are passionate about delivering exceptional musical experiences for all NDSU students, whether pursuing professional careers or simply exploring musical interests. The Challey School provides the region's most diverse degree options, ranging from liberal arts with music focuses to professional degrees at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Music majors engage in core studies including theory, literature, history, and conducting, while receiving individualized instruction on their chosen instrument or voice and participating in premier ensembles. Additional coursework aligns with each student's specialization. Across all programs, applied studies in instruments or voice cultivate both musical artistry and technical proficiency. Admission for private instruction depends on demonstrated talent and faculty availability.
