This four-year professional program is designed for aspiring musicians pursuing careers as public school educators or music supervisors. The Bachelor of Music in Music Performance equips graduates to:
Apply music theory and aural skills effectively.
Achieve piano proficiency.
Develop conducting abilities.
Write clearly about music history topics.
Present a thirty-minute Junior Recital on their primary instrument.
Pass both Praxis Core and Praxis II: Music Content examinations.
Formulate and articulate a personal music education philosophy.
Design pedagogically effective lesson plans.
Implement teaching strategies for instrumental, choral, and general music instruction.
Complete a fifteen-week student teaching experience across elementary, middle, and high school settings.
Qualify for Maine music teaching certification, which transfers to many other states through reciprocity agreements.
