The Music Education Department's seasoned instructors are dedicated to equipping students for thriving careers in K-12 music education. Through coursework covering educational theories and instructional techniques, hands-on practice in K-12 classrooms, and participation in specialized initiatives (such as the Middle School Ensemble Program, Summer Music Academy, and NAfME Collegiate Chapter), students gain essential knowledge, competencies, and real-world teaching experience. The program boasts an exceptional track record, with nearly all graduates securing teaching positions over the past two decades.
Recognizing the diverse demands of K-12 music instruction, the undergraduate curriculum offers both focused specialization and well-rounded training. Bachelor of Music Education candidates develop comprehensive understanding of music curricula while honing specific expertise to excel as general music teachers or directors of choral, orchestral, or band programs.
