Undergraduate music education students cultivate exceptional musical skills, acquire broad general education knowledge, and master core music concepts while learning diverse teaching methodologies through coursework. These students regularly engage with K-12 public school students through observation, interaction, and instruction during their training, providing valuable practical experience before their student teaching term. Music education faculty frequently join students during these field experiences, offering real-time, actionable feedback on their teaching techniques.
Upon completion, graduates earn a Bachelor of Music with an Emphasis in Music Education degree. This qualification certifies them to teach music from kindergarten through 12th grade, covering elementary general music along with their selected secondary specialization in instrumental, vocal, or both disciplines. Our alumni emerge as accomplished educators and performers, highly sought after by Missouri schools, institutions nationwide, and elite graduate programs. Remarkably, every music education graduate pursuing K-12 teaching positions has secured employment for more than twenty consecutive years.
